The Power of Your Questions

Saturday night after enjoying our local outdoor 4th of July
concert, my daughter and I watched the movie “The Bucket List”
with Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson.

Two very poignant questions were brought forward in the movie
that I wanted to highlight here (Morgan Freeman shares these
as two questions that the Egyptians believed you’d be asked to
determine your entrance into heaven):

First…

Did you find joy in your life?

****

Second…

Did your life bring joy to someone else?

****

Wow.

The questions we ask tend to direct our thinking, our attention
and where our energy goes, and the answers that we find.

What questions are you asking yourself each day?

What are you “aiming” for today, and is it time to change the
questions that you’re asking?

This weekend I also enjoyed a Miley Cyrus song (discovered via
my daughter Gigi’s recent dance recital) “I Learned From You”
and this line in particular stood out to me:

“I learned that strength is a choice.”

Hmm…

What are you choosing today?

What questions are you choosing to ask?

Now how many of you know you want to change the questions
you’re asking but don’t know how?

Well, here’s a final quote from a good friend and mentor,
Artemis Limpert:

“Stop demanding perfection!  You do not have to be good at stuff
coming out of the gate…but you do have to encounter what you’re
not good at…and then give yourself permission to discover what
would support you at a greater level towards your success
.”
(emphasis added)

Give yourself permission…

And discover what would support you…

A friend, a mentor, someone who believes in you…

A book, a program, a resource…

Discover what would support you at a greater level towards your
success…

And now let me close with this very special song from John Mayer
in response to the movie, “The Bucket List”—

Enjoy…and as you listen, see what questions come to mind, and
what ways you realize you can choose to support yourself.

I look forward to hearing from you!

  1. Hi Ben, I loved that movie “The Bucket List” and the song. I immediately went to the internet to find the song. “Say what you need to say”, “if it’s meant to be, it’s up to me.” “Get the shadows out of your head.” “Better to say too much, than nothing at all.”

  2. I’m in Artemis’ Brain Training course, and a couple of weeks ago at the end of an awesome call, she played “Say What You Need To Say”, and it was powerful. It brought back those powerful insights when I heard it again at the end of your message!
    Thank You!

  3. Awesome. I watched the Bucket List as well. Incredible and Inspirational. Often, we tend to take things for granted not realizing that we are only existing and not living until we find joy in our lives as well as those around us and those we choose to be a part of our lives. Wow! “Say what you need to say.” What do we have to show for our lives? Thanks for the inspiration and nuggets of life.

  4. HEY BEN, THANK YOU SO MUCH. I HAVEN’T HAD A CHANCE TO WHATCH THE BUCKET LIST BUT AS I WAS LISTENING AND WHATCHING THIS VIDEO, I FELT TEARS RUNING DOWN MY FACE. IT IS SUCH A POWERFUL SONG! “SAY WHAT YOU NEED TO SAY”. IT IS SO TRUE. YOU CAN GO THROUGH LIFE KEEPING THINGS BOTTLED UP AND NEVER MOVING FORWARD OR YOU CAN TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR LIFE AND GET THE THINGS THAT HOLD YOU BACK OUT OF THE WAY, FACE IT. MOVE FORWARD AND NEVER STOP. I WANT TO THANK FOR EVERYTHING YOU HAVE DONE FOR ME. IT MEANS THE WORLD. THESE LITTLE TID-BITS OF INFORMATION HAVE HELPED ME TAKE CONTROL AND FOCUS ON THE POSITVE AND NOT WORRY SO-MUCH ABOUT THE NEGATIVE. THANKS AGIAN, ANGIE

  5. Thank you all for sharing your own hearts and how this impacted you…very powerful!

  6. Lately I have been reflecting on my life. My focus has been more on failures, disappointments, what could have been & grieving my present lack of accomplishment. Those questions & the advice are what I needed to be reminded of. I admire Morgan freeman & Jack Nicholson as great actors, but I wasn’t interested in renting the movie. Now I’m going to. I’m a deep music lover & I think the music video is cool. I like the song & am inspired by it’s words. You did it again! Thank you
